AWNINGS

WHAT ARE DROP ARM AWNINGS?

Drop Arm Awnings also known as pivot arm awnings are a simple yet stylish type of awning. They are made up of a headbox which houses the awnings fabric and 2 spring tensioned arms which are attached to the wall or architraves of a building.  These tensioned arms pull the awning fabric out of the head box and also give the awnings fabric its tension. Drop arm awnings travel in an arc range of motion from approximately 10 degree to 135 degrees which makes them unique in their design and exceptionally versatile.  Popular in Europe its simple design means fewer moving parts which makes them exceptionally durable and relatively maintenance free.  Drop Arm Awnings are the perfect  solution for proving shade and protection from the harsh Australian sun.

Drop arm awnings can give a building a touch of  European charm as they can be projected outwards away from the window or doorway to create a canopy type appearance.  Available in a huge array or fabric designs and colours  these awnings are highly adaptable and will suit most facades. Drop arm awnings can be manually operated with a crank mechanism or can be motorised to operate with the simple touch op a button.

WHY CHOOSE A DROP ARM AWNING?

Drop Arm Awnings or Pivot Arm Awnings  as they are also known provide excellent protection agains the sun.  Their unique arc range of motions offers protection from the sun with multiple awning canopy positions  depending on the solar altitude.

Drop Arm Awnings distinctly European design can break up large monotonous facades improving their visual and curb side appeal.

Drop Arm Awnings arc range of motion allows for more air to circulate between the awning cloth and the window.  This eliminate heat build up which sometimes occurs when the awning fabric is too close to the window.

Available in a huge range of fabric colours and designs to suit all types of facades.

Our Drop Arm and Pivot Arm Awnings are highly durable and extremely user friendly.   They are easily opened and closed manually with a crank handle or can be motorised and operated with a remote control.

Drop arm awnings unique arc range of motion makes them also suitable ove doorways and on balconies.

Reduces the power consumption needed to cool down a room within a building saving you dollars in energy bills.

Drop Arm Awnings can be motorised and automated with smart technology.  Using climatic sensors , smart home hubs such as Somfy Connexoon and third part voice assistants your Ziptraks can be operated autonomously or controlled  via a  smartphone or remote control.

  • Are Somfys RTS Remote controls compatible with the Zigbee Motors?
No. Somfys RTS remote controls are not compatible with Zigbee Motors. Zigbee operates on 2.4Ghz spectrum frequency which is a different frequency to RTS which is 433.42 Mhz. If you have any further questions please do not hesitate to call us on 1300 952 510 or email us your details at Contact Us.
  • Do the Somfy Zigbee motors have a further range of control then the Somfy RTS Motors?
YES & NO. It all depends on how the blinds motors have been set up. Somfy's RTS remote controls have a omni directional range of over 20 metres, this includes thru walls & floors. Zigbee motors have an open field range of only 7mtres. If comparing the two protocols with 2 stand alone blinds the RTS would win. However Zigbees range can be greatly extended beyond that of RTS if you created a network of otherZigbee devices that communicate to each other in a mesh network. Contact our qualified team at Motorised Blinds Australia for more advice. Contact Us

Repeater - Somfy Powered 240V AC Zigbee motors act as repeaters and relay commands between repeaters and end devices. Repeaters extend and strengthen the rnge within the ecosystem. Controller - Somfys Tahoma Switch Hub acts as the controller and forms and manages the network and ecosystem. The controller must me mains powered (240v)
